The first in our new series of Pinterest Parables is this colorful, sparkly pin, which is currently all over Pinterest with the caption, “Edible Glitter!! 1/4 sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of food coloring, baking sheet and 10 mins in oven… fun on cakes!”
It’s true that you can very easily color your own sugar with food coloring, though not in those proportions (1/4 sugar? Huh?), and here is how to do it, if you’re so inclined, but the stuff in the picture is obviously glitter, not colored sugar.
Furthermore, if you click on the original pin, it leads to a post with directions for making non-toxic glitter using salt and food coloring, which will look nothing like the glitter in the picture accompanying the article, as Hope Studios proved.
Moral of the story?
